Howard Potter

Howard is a long-standing supporter of IUMI, having attended his first conference at Amsterdam in 2005. He has previously served on the Cargo Committee, and currently sits on the Loss Prevention Committee. Howard has spent 27 years in marine insurance, including working in the London market and in Canada. He began in the Hull team at Royal Insurance, before moving to regional operations for all classes of marine business. He spent 17 years at the CNA group from 2000 to 2017, running a UK branch, before moving to Toronto as Head of Marine for Canada. On return to Europe, he directed European marine operations for CNA before becoming Head of Cargo and Specie for the newly merged CNA Hardy. He spent two years back at RSA as Group Marine Director, before moving to Astaara to focus on cyber risks in the maritime arena, where he heads up underwriting for an MGA where emphasis is placed on both Risk Management and Loss Prevention alongside the provision of insurance for this evolving threat.
